ANAMA demined nearly 7,000 hectares of areas last year 

The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) demined 6,777.6 hectares of areas in 2021, Report informs, citing the Cabinet of Ministers.

In total, the Agency found and destroyed 28,500 mines, including 10,500 anti-personnel mines, 4,800 anti-tank mines, and 13,200 unexploded ordnance. In total, 2,134.6 hectares were cleared of mines.

In the reporting period, 1,959.7 hectares of areas were demined in the Zangilan district, 1,318.2 hectares in Gubadli, 1,083.8 hectares in Jabrayil, 1,043.6 hectares in Fuzuli, 781.9 hectares in Aghdam, 370.1 hectares in Tartar, 127.9 hectares in Khojavend, 66.4 hectares in Shusha and 26 hectares in Khojaly. In 2021, the Agency launched 59 mine clearance projects, of which 46 were successfully completed, 2 were suspended, and others are underway.

In order to achieve the goals and ensure the implementation of tasks, in 2021, the number of employees of the Agency was increased from 540 to 902. At the same time, the Agency, which began operations in early 2021 with an operational staff of 248 people, increased this number to 487 by the end of the year. In 2021, a total of 24 mine detection dogs were used.
