ANAMA chairman informs UN official on threat posed by landmines

On October 25, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov met with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva.

Suleymanov wished Vladanka Andreeva success during her tenure in Azerbaijan.

He briefed Andreeva on mine clearance operations in the liberated areas, projects planned under state priorities, and activities carried out within the mine and explosive ordnance awareness program.

The meeting participants highlighted the history of close cooperation between ANAMA and the UN in humanitarian demining in Azerbaijan. Discussions also focused on assistance to mine victims, improvement of national mine clearance standards based on international standards, and possible support for explosive ordnance awareness activities.

The UN Resident Coordinator said she was impressed by the volume of demining work and hoped that cooperation on the issues addressed would further develop.
