1,318 PMN-Э mines revealed in Lachin in last 15 days

Anti-personnel mines are found in the Lachin district, Report informs, citing the statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ANAMA.

Thus, 1,318 PMN-Э type mines were discovered from the anti-personnel minefields in Lachin only from August 15 to 31 of this year.

Those mines were produced in Armenia in 2021 after the Patriotic War.

Under international humanitarian law, the 1997 Ottawa Convention prohibits the production, stockpiling, transportation and use of anti-personnel mines:

"Also, Armenia violates the requirements of the Additional Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 by burying anti-personnel mines in the liberated territories, and it openly demonstrates this and shows disrespect to the international community.

"The mass of anti-personnel mines buried by Armenia and the large scale of the fields are a manifestation of mine terrorism carried out by this country. All this is a deliberate crime against peace and security in the region and the environment and is a clear indication of Armenia's hostile intent."
