New Caledonia held a mass protest on April 13 against the French government's colonial policies.
According to Report, the protest, organized by the local Centre for Local Coordination, took place in the main square of the city of Nouméa. It was attended by more than 30,000 people.
The protest included speeches by pro-independence leaders and Coordination Centre representatives, followed by a march by demonstrators.
The “Iron Fist” of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was chosen as the main logo of the protest program. The demonstrators also hoisted the flag of Azerbaijan in the central square of the city.
The number of protests against France's policy in New Caledonia has been on the rise in recent days. On 2 April, a government-sponsored bill to change the electoral law in New Caledonia was approved by the Senate of the French Parliament. According to the document, residents deliberately resettled in New Caledonia by Paris will have the right to vote. In this way, the French government intends to leave the Kanaks as a minority in their own country.
