Azerbaijan provides humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees

Under the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated $300,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The move came in response to the request addressed by the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Youssef Al-Osaymin to support the coronavirus fight in Palestine, the Foreign Ministry told Report.

There is a need to deliver humanitarian assistance to Palestine due to the spread of coronavirus and its consequences, the ministry stressed.

In 1949, the UN General Assembly established the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide humanitarian relief to over 700,000 refugees and displaced persons who were forced to flee homes in Palestine as a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
