A strong audit system plays a vital role in protecting the legal interests of the state, economic entities, and citizens, ensuring efficient use of public resources, reducing corruption risks, and strengthening economic security, according to Azerbaijan's Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva, Report informs.
Speaking at the international conference "The Role of Audit in Protecting the Interests of the State and Economic Entities" in Baku, Aliyeva emphasized that effective protection of human rights today goes beyond legal mechanisms.
"Transparent and accountable governance, efficient use of public funds, effective anti-corruption measures, a healthy business environment, and strengthened public trust are key conditions for reliable protection of human rights. That is why the audit institution is of particular importance. Audit is not only about assessing the accuracy of financial reports, but also about ensuring transparency, accountability, rule of law, and a culture of responsible governance," she said.
Aliyeva noted that from a human rights perspective, audit enhances transparency and accountability, increases public trust, prevents violations, and supports social justice. She stressed the importance of preventive mechanisms: "In our work, we focus not only on responding to human rights violations but also on developing preventive mechanisms. In this regard, audit is a crucial partner in strengthening the rule of law, promoting effective governance, and ensuring reliable protection of human rights."
