Armenia failed to gain political points against Azerbaijan: Foreign Ministry

In the International Court of Justice, the Armenian side demanded the unconditional release of Armenian citizens detained in Azerbaijan and their return to Armenia, Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said at a press conference on the denial of Armenia's lawsuit against Azerbaijan in the International Court of Justice.

"Let me note that this was the most important petition among others filed by Armenia. During the hearings in October, the Armenian representative and lawyers devoted almost the majority of their time to this issue. It is not a coincidence. As you know, the return of these people to Armenia has long been on the political agenda of Armenia.

"The Armenian side tried to justify its claim in the International Court of Justice by claiming that the allegations made in Azerbaijan against Armenians were false. These people are detained in Azerbaijan because they are Armenians. The issue arising from this logic is the policy of ethnic hatred. Therefore, it raised the matter within the coalition. The local courts are also formal. We have presented to the international court all the indictments against the detainees, the facts on which they are based, and the court verdicts in detail. As a result, the international court ultimately rejected Armenia's main petition against Azerbaijan at this stage. Armenia failed to achieve its primary goal and gain political points against Azerbaijan," Deputy FM said.
