Brexit’s new stage, Britain in a new role - May becoming “The Iron lady” - COMMENT

Baku. 17 January. REPORT.AZ/ It looks like the alliance that once opposed former Soviet Union and its block is collapsing. There are some signs of it. President Donald Trump wants to withdraw the United States from the NATO.

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron said back in the day that Turkey should not expect to join the EU until the year 3000. But his own country will not see the EU membership for the next 981 years.

In fact, in the past two days the UK saw serious political events. On January 15, members of the UK House of Commons discussed the Brexit deal. 202 members of the House voted for the document and 432 voted against Tory MP John Baron insisted MPs vote on his - which would have given the UK the right to terminate the Northern Ireland backstop without EU’s consent but was defeated by 600 votes to 24. Thus, the House of Lords did not support the country's exit from EU, ie the "Hard Brexit" was not supported.

It is the first time in the history of the British parliament that the gap between ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ made 230 votes.

In addition, the result of the vote was the "tragic defeat" of the government. The opposition thought that after the vote, it will be east to send the government headed by the Conservative Party, Prime Minister Theresa Mai to resignation. Prime Minister proposed the government to hold a confidence vote on January 16. UK Prime Minister Theresa May has seen off a bid to remove her government from power, winning a no-confidence vote by 325 to 306. May said on Wednesday that Britain will be leaving the European Union in March, and that the bloc would only consider extending the ‘Article 50’ negotiating period if there was a credible alternative exit plan.

Thus, a referendum was held on Thursday 23 June, 2016, to decide whether the UK should leave or remain in the European Union. 51.9% voted for Brexit and 48.1% voted against. 46.5 million voters have been registered in this political campaign, a record high for the UK.

At that time, European politicians called this event a "very sad day" for the continent. Notably, UK did not accept the Rome Treaty on European Integration in 1957. Charles de Gaulle vetoed the UK joining the European Economic Community (EEC) in both 1963 and 1967. In 1973, Britain became a member of the Alliance. Common Market referendum and EEC membership referendum, took place under the provisions of the Referendum Act 1975 on 5 June 1975 in the United Kingdom to gauge support for the country's continued membership of the European Communities (EC). The electorate expressed firm support for EC membership, with 67% in favor. Moreover, the Maastricht Treaty (officially the Treaty on European Union) was signed on 7 February 1992 by the members of the European Community in Maastricht, Netherlands to further European integration. The organization also became an economic and political unity. 46 years of Britain's membership in the European Economic Union is coming to an end. True, this is not that easy for the Kingdom.

According to a survey conducted by Ernst & Young, banks, insurers and money managers are planning to move about 800 billion pounds ($1 trillion) of assets from the U.K. to the rest of Europe as Brexit uncertainty takes its toll.

David Cameron led the campaign to keep Britain in the EU. After the referendum results he resigned from his post without expiration of term of office. Although Teresa May supported this process, it was not easy for her to stay in power.

By 1990, the world was bipolar. NATO and the Warsaw Treaty Organization, the European Economic Union and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance were rivals. After the collapse of the USSR, the European Union changed its name and its goal. NATO has also turned into a political and military bloc. However, there is no optimistic prediction about the future of the two unions organized by Western states. A while ago European Union planned to create a new military alliance. This can be a blow to NATO. Thus, there is a possibility that international organizations that compete with the former USSR and the socialist camp can become new associations. The EU has already taken the first step. French yellow vest protesters called for EU EXIT (Frexit). It turns out that the European Union has been hampering Britain's independence and its free activity. The United Kingdom was always the leader in Africa, Middle East, and Hindi-China. These territories were its colonies. However, Britain is no longer seen in those areas. It seems that the UK intends to return to the former colonial lands with different political thinking on the new model. Working together with EU did not seem beneficial to the Kingdom. In areas mentioned above, the interests of EU are not guaranteed.

But everyone needs the market. France is taking steps to return to its former colonial lands. Official Paris is expanding and strengthening Frankofonia's activities. Emmanuel Macron stated at the G5 summit in the Malian capital of Bamako that France should cooperate with its African counterparts to fight Islamist militants in the coastal region. Sahel bloc includes five countries - Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. While France keeps few military contingents in Syria, G-5 fighters in those countries are fighting against terrorists. France has deployed thousands of soldiers in Mali. France’s activities in Africa have nothing to do with its allies in the European Union - Britain, Estonia and Greece. France is there to secure its own interests.

Finally, it is possible to assume that Britain would come back to Africa, the Middle East, Hindi-China, and even the Caucasus.

Apparently, it does not need many partners to realize this idea. There are very few allies for this project. In the process of the collapse of the former USSR, the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was called the "Iron Lady". Because she was more decisive. She showed selflessness for her country's new authority. "Iron Lady" was also the leader of the Conservative Party. Theresa May is also the chairman of this party and she is working to make the kingdom stronger. Theresa May survived vote of no confidence twice within 35 days.

It helped May in becoming “The Iron lady” and UK to struggle alone for the markets. The Kingdom may appear to be a new quality in the world's political scene.ality in the world's political scene.
