Turkish Grain Council Director: Global wheat prices showing signs of stabilization

Global wheat prices are beginning to stabilize, Ahmet Gurdal, the Director General of the Turkish Grain Council, announced at a recent conference held in Baku, titled "Sustainable Food Security in the Face of Climate Change," Report informs.

However, Gurdal cautioned that new challenges in the realm of food security may arise daily.

"The food sector, particularly grain production, has undergone a volatile phase due to the drought in 2020, followed by the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war," Gurdal stated. "The price of wheat has more than doubled, from $200 per ton two years ago to over $400 per ton today. Nevertheless, prices have recently started to stabilize."

The director general noted that when difficulties related to wheat arose worldwide, most countries took necessary measures to ensure their security.

"We also made our preparations," he added. "After years of drought, agricultural productivity has been observed in the last two years. We are currently in a period of abundance, and we must take measures related to procurement during this time."
