The outcomes of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Baku last year, aim to strengthen global efforts in the areas of technology transfer, innovation, and international cooperation, Somalia's Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir, said, Report informs.
He made this insight at the conference titled "Agriculture mobilizing countries for nature" held within the framework of the 18th Azerbaijan International Agriculture Exhibition (Caspian Agro) and the 30th Anniversary Azerbaijan International Food Industry Exhibition (InterFood Azerbaijan) in Baku today.
"The outcomes of COP29 have defined a new direction for climate action along three main lines. One of these directions is technology transfer. That is, countries should share effective technologies (adaptation, mitigation, etc.) and technologies obtained in the field of climate action to combat climate change,” Abdi Hayir noted.
The minister also highlighted the importance of sharing innovations – new ideas and approaches – not just relying on previous experiences: “Another important direction is international cooperation. Because climate change itself is an injustice. Poor and vulnerable countries that cause the least pollution but suffer the most damage become victims of this injustice. Therefore, international cooperation and justice must be ensured to combat the effects of climate change.”
“For example, Somalia and other developing countries, despite having minimal impact on global emissions, are among those most affected by climate change. That is why cooperation between international corporations and countries is extremely important," he stated.
