Israel creating orchards in Azerbaijan

Israel has launched a pilot project to plant apples, pomegranates, cherries, peaches and nectarines in Azerbaijan, Report informs referring to the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan.

“As part of a joint project by the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan through MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation), USAID, Coca Cola Azerbaijan, intensive orchard fruit demonstration plots were established on Education-Experimental Farm of ADAU (Azerbaijan State Agrarian University) and more than 3,400 apples, pomegranate, cherry, peach and nectarine trees were planted over a 2.5 ha area,” the embassy tweeted.

“These modern orchards will allow ADAU students and staff to gain practical knowledge and skills for setting up and managing intensive orchards, which will be more productive, efficient, and sustainable than traditional orchards using the most advanced and efficient methods. Equipped with trellis and modern drip irrigation systems, these orchards will support the development of the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan, which is essential to raising rural incomes and creating strong and resilient communities.”
