Gadimova: Azerbaijan aims to boost mutton output by 9% until 2030

Azerbaijan plans to increase mutton production by 9% by 2030, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilhama Gadimova said at a regional meeting on the Mil-Mughan Economic Zone within the framework of the 2026–2030 State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing, according to Report's correspondent in Saatli.

Gadimova noted that the program also envisions a 10% increase in sheep numbers, a 7% rise in self-sufficiency in mutton, and annual exports reaching 2,900 tons.

The deputy minister added that the country plans to establish 300 new semi-intensive sheep farms, 10 wool collection points, and one processing enterprise.

Additionally, the program foresees the restoration of 480,000 hectares of pastures and support for drilling 100 sub-artesian wells to improve livestock access to drinking water.

She emphasized that to attract foreign investment into the sector, the creation of agroparks is also planned, which should facilitate the introduction of modern technologies and the development of sheep farming.
