Subsidies to the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan will be increased, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said at a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on legal policy and state building, defense, security and anti-corruption, human rights, international relations and inter-parliamentary ties, Report informs.
“Subsidies to the agricultural sector will be increased because food security is an important criterion. We want to reduce the country’s dependence on food imports,” Sharifov noted.
The minister also commented on the gradual reduction of subsidies to the regions from the state budget, saying that this is due to the centralized financing of a number of local enterprises.
