As part of a project to conserve biodiversity in the forests of Azerbaijan and better manage national parks, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will support the restoration of the Basitchay Reserve in the Zangilan district in 2023 as a pilot project, head of the FAO office in Azerbaijan, Melek Cakmak, told Report.
She noted that the request for the restoration of the Basitchay reserve in Zangilan came from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources: “As part of projects to preserve biodiversity in forests and improve the management of national parks, along with the Girkan and Shirvan reserves, the Basitchay reserve will be adopted as a pilot project. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility. The project, which has a budget of $2.8 million, is designed until 2026.”
