Drought proposed to be classified as natural disaster in Azerbaijan

Legislative amendments are needed to officially classify drought as a natural disaster in Azerbaijan, MP Ali Masimli said during a meeting of the Milli Majlis"s Committee for Economic Policy, Industries and Enterprising, Report informs.

Masimli emphasized that climate change is significantly affecting the agricultural sector: "This is causing serious harm to farmers. I believe a proposal to include drought in the list of natural disasters should be brought before parliament. Relevant agencies must also be involved in discussions on this issue."

The MP considers it appropriate to revise legislation to reflect drought"s inclusion among officially recognized natural disasters.
