Azerbaijan, Somalia sign MoU on agricultural collaboration

Azerbaijan and Somalia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the agriculture sector, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister, Majnun Mammadov, met with a delegation led by Somalia's Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir.
Minister Mammadov stated that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev places special importance on strengthening cooperation with African countries, including Somalia, in various sectors of the economy.
He noted that agriculture is one of the most promising areas for future cooperation, and there is great potential for increasing the trade turnover of agricultural products between the two countries.
According to Mammadov, in this regard, establishing direct links between business entities of both countries and exchanging information about products with high export potential is of great importance.
The minister invited the Somali side to actively participate in the Caspian Agro exhibition, the largest agricultural exhibition in the Caucasus, to be held in 2026, and to be represented with a national pavilion.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan is ready to share the latest technologies and practices applied in the agricultural sector with Somalia. At the same time, students from Somalia were invited to study at the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University within the framework of scholarship programs.
Somalian Minister, in turn, stated that his country is interested in developing partnership with Azerbaijan in all spheres, emphasizing the wide potential for cooperation in the agricultural sector. The parties expressed their mutual interest in deepening agricultural cooperation.
Subsequently, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed. The document was signed by the two ministers.
