Türkiye expects 50% participation in construction of second nuclear power plant

Türkiye expects to increase the localization of processes during the construction and maintenance of the second nuclear power plant to 50%, the Chairman of the Turkish Nuclear Industry Association Alikaan Ciftci said, Report informs via TASS.

“There is a goal to achieve 50% localization at the second nuclear power plant. Currently, our participation in the Akkuyu NPP project is about $5 billion, with a total project cost of $20 billion. At the second station, we expect it to be $10 billion. At Akkuyu, the first reactor is expected to be put into operation by the end of the year, and Türkiye will thereby add nuclear energy to its energy pool. Negotiations are also ongoing with Russia, China and South Korea on the construction of second and third nuclear power plants,” Yeni Şafak newspaper quotes Ciftci.

The head of the association noted that thanks to the Akkuyu NPP project, Türkiye has gained impressive knowledge and experience, which can be used to increase the country's production and export potential in other areas.

According to him, Akkuyu's experience allowed Türkiye to create new technological products in other industries.

“These are healthcare, agriculture, defense industry, space industry, aviation, and wind energy. We have made significant progress in the production of cables, pressure vessels, pipelines, pumps, and engineering services, logistics, etc,” Ciftci said.
