AEOI chief: Talks between Tehran, head of IAEA were constructive

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, has called the negotiations with Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi constructive, Report informs referring to TASS.

Eslami was speaking at a joint press conference with Grossi in the Iranian city of Isfahan.

“We held constructive and promising negotiations,” the Iranian Tasnim agency quoted him as saying.

He said that the AEOI and the IAEA decided to take the joint statement dated March 4, 2023 as the basis for further negotiations. It noted Tehran’s intention to allow the agency to carry out verification and monitoring, as well as Iran’s willingness to provide access to three nuclear facilities. It was indicated that Iran and the IAEA agreed to interact based on the “rights and responsibilities” of the republic and the agency’s competencies.

According to Eslami, “last March, we stated in Tehran that although Iran’s ill-wishers are dissatisfied with the cooperation between [the Islamic Republic] and the agency <...>, Mr. Grossi and I believe that this statement is a good basis for relations, and we have outlined it as a starting line in the road map of negotiations of the current period.”
