UNRWA: No intention of leaving Rafah despite escalation

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) does not intend to leave the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip despite the escalating situation around it, representative of the organization Sam Rose said, Report informs referring to TASS.

“We remain where we are, in Rafah, we have a small number of facilities inside the evacuation zone. <...> Teams of our specialists are located in different places in the Gaza Strip: several thousand people work every day,” he said on Qatari television Al Jazeera, adding that the main problem is whether UNRWA can continue to operate for a long time if the crossing points are closed.

The representative of the organization also called on Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas for a truce and the release of all hostages without additional conditions.
