The new package of EU sanctions against Russia, the preparation of which is still ongoing, provides for the introduction of restrictions against 52 individuals and legal entities, according to the El Pais newspaper, Report informs referring to TASS.
Brussels proposes that member countries ban not the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the EU, but only the re-export of this fuel outside the EU. Representatives of European states will discuss such an initiative on May 8.
If adopted, the measure might have a significant impact on countries such as Spain, the EU’s largest importer of LNG from Russia. According to the newspaper, Brussels also advocates a ban on new European investments in the Russian LNG sector.
