The first meeting of the Arctic Council working group after a long break will take place on April 3 via videoconference, Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Nikolai Korchunov said, Report informs via Russian media.

“On April 3rd there will be a meeting of the Council's working group for the protection of the marine environment. It will be held via video conference. Russia will take part there at the expert level,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that the countries of the Arctic Council decided to gradually resume work in the format of working groups. For the past two years, the activities of the council have been effectively frozen after Western countries announced in March 2022 the suspension of participation in any association activities due to the war in Ukraine.

The Arctic Council, established in 1996, is a high-level intergovernmental forum that promotes cooperation in the region, especially in the area of environmental protection. Its members include Russia, Canada, USA, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland and Sweden.
