Ilham Aliyev speaks about victims of mines on liberated lands

"Currently, it is impossible to return former IDPs to the liberated lands due to landmines. Unfortunately, over 200 people have been killed or seriously injured by landmines so far," Report says with reference to President Ilham Aliyev’s March 5 meeting with Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Settlement Program (UN-Habitat).

"Clearing these territories of mines are requiring a lot of experience and technical capabilities. We also need to create decent conditions for people, who will return, and the process has been kicked off. I am sure you will visit our country again because this is a very important issue on a global scale. I think the way we will restore a territory the size of Lebanon will be a good example for other countries suffering from occupation, destruction and other serious problems. I am sure we can be an example for all other countries that are facing or faced the same problems as us. Welcome again. I thank you for being with us," the president said.
