'Grand Slam' judo tournament kicks off in Baku

Baku. 6 May. REPORT.AZ/ Today, Judo Grand Slam tournament starts in Baku.

Report informs, 449 judokas from 76 countries (280 men, 169 women) will compete in the 3-days tournament in the Sports Palace named after Heydar Aliyev.

This contest is of importance for qualifying for Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition to gold medal, winners will gain 5,000 US-dollars money prize and 500 license points in the competition of 154,000 US-dollars prize fund.

The host country will be represented by 27 men and 3 women judokas. 10 of them to join the tournament on the first day of games.

60 kg. Ilgar Mushkiyev - winner of Nuno Carvalho (Portugal) - Bekir Özlü (Turkey) pair

60 kg. Vugar Shirinli - winner of Juho Reinvall (Finland)-Ashley McKenzie (Great Britain) pair

60 kg. Elbrus Zamanov - Artiom Arshanski (Israel)

66 kg. Orkhan Asgarzade - Vazha Margvelashvili (Georgia)

66 kg. Tarlan Karimov - Aleksander Beta (Poland)

66 kg. Famil Mammadzade - winner of Kenneth Van Gansbeke (Belgium)-Adrian Gombos (Slovenia) pair

66 kg. Iskandar Talishinski - winner of Chia Hung Chien (Taiwan)-Andraz Jereb (Slovenia) pair.

Notably, first meetings will start at 10:00, finals at 17:00 local time. Solemn opening ceremony will be held before the finals.
