UN official: Azerbaijan prevents HIV/AIDS infections and reduces number of deaths

Azerbaijan prevents HIV/AIDS infections and reduces the number of deaths, the Executive Director of UNAIDS and an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Winnie Byanyima, said at the 4th panel discussion of the 11th Global Baku Forum on “Fixing the Fractured World,” Report informs.

According to her, health is everyone's right: "This is one of people's rights. Health care should be accessible to everyone. Today, 4,000 women in the world are infected with HIV/AIDS. Every minute, one woman dies from this disease. Azerbaijan is preventing infections and reducing the number of deaths. This is also commendable. In general, it is necessary to prevent future pandemics."

The UN official said that the fight against sexual violence should also be strengthened: "There should be no discrimination in this matter. We should treat each person as an individual. Each person should benefit from medical services. Unfortunately, one of the main problems is related to access to medical supplies. This problem is more widespread in the East. Because medicines are life-saving tools. The World Health Organization must ensure that everyone has access to medicines. Medicines must be sold at a fair price. It must be properly regulated in the world financial market."
