UN opens 71st session of General Assembly

Baku. 13 September. REPORT.AZ/ UN opens 71st session of the General Assembly - the chief deliberative body of the world organization, which annually brings together the leaders of all 193 countries.

Report informs, a new session chaired by the Permanent Representative of Fiji, Peter Thomson, who was previously elected, will open at 15.00, followed by a traditional minute of silence for prayer and meditation.

The General Assembly, September 19 for the first time convenes a meeting to respond to the large-scale movement of refugees and migrants at the level of Heads of State and Government. The United Nations intends to use the opportunity to develop a system for responding to the movement of large groups of people fleeing from their home countries.

A week after the opening of the session was called to a general political discussion, which is traditionally attended by the heads of states, governments and foreign ministries. This year, the discussion will be held from 20 to 26 September.

According to the preliminary list released by the Department of Public Information of the United Nations, about 100 countries will be represented at the highest level, including the United States, France, Poland, Egypt, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Finland, Great Britain, China, Turkey, Yemen, Afghanistan and others.
