Slovak expert: Balance of power clearly plays in favor of Azerbaijan and there is not many things Armenia could do right now

The balance of power clearly plays in favor of Azerbaijan and there is not many things Armenia could do right now, Jozef Hrabina, a Slovak geopolitical and public affairs specialist, told Report while commenting on the meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia scheduled to be held on May 10 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

He stressed that, in terms of the ongoing peace process, there's nothing to talk about anymore: “I hope that the agreement will be signed because, basically, there's not much to talk about anymore and there are only political grievances that are left on the ground. But the balance of power clearly plays in favor of Azerbaijan, and there are not many things Armenia could do right now. So, I hope that this realization has already prevailed amongst the Armenian political elite.”

The expert also spoke about third parties interfering in the process, such as France: “The only obstacle I see right now is Armenian society, how they're going to explain it to Armenian society. It is very hard to say whether the peace agreement will be signed by the end of the year, but as I said at the beginning, I hope that the agreement will be signed. We know that there are third parties interfering in the process, such as France. I don't know what the internal agreements are between Armenia, the European Union, and European states.”

Touching upon the agreement reached between the parties, Jozef Hrabina said that this is a great diplomatic achievement and a great step towards mutual agreement: “I think it shows will to negotiate a future peace agreement.”
