Moscow: Islamophobia in PACE at unimaginable scale

The world needs a fair assessment of what is happening in the Council of Europe, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing, commenting on the decision to suspend the activities of the Azerbaijani delegation in PACE, according to Report.

"Everything that PACE does is absolutely politicized. And, unfortunately, not only in this organization, but also in its adjacent ones, for example, the OSCE. We all need an adequate assessment of what is happening in the Council of Europe," she said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spox emphasized that PACE is showing its intolerance, arrogance and neo-colonial chauvinism towards some states.

"Islamophobia in PACE has reached an unimaginable scale. All this is the destructive influence of the West, which has brought the CE to the brink of an institutional crisis," Zakharova said.

On January 24, the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) made a statement at a meeting of the Assembly, announcing the decision to cease its interaction and presence in PACE until further notice.
