Baku Initiative Group in spotlight of African media

Nigerian journalist Dare Akogun, an active member of the platform uniting African NGOs, published an article on the international activities of the Baku Initiative Group.

Report informs that the article was disseminated in media and in the social network groups of African NGOs.

The article notes that the fight against colonialism and its modern forms had been reignited as the Baku Initiative Group and anti-colonialism stakeholders join forces to condemn the French government’s assimilation policy on colonized territory.

"At a recent international conference titled 'The Path to Decolonization: Consequences of Assimilation and its Implications for the Realization of Human Rights,' organized by the Baku Initiative Group at the UN Vienna office, representatives from 20 countries convened on April 30, 2024, to address this pressing issue," the article says.

The journalist states that among the main topics of the conference are the negative effects on local communities that lead to forced migration, the development of human rights and the effects on the environment, and emphasizes the urgency of achieving the reduction of assimilation effects and the elimination of colonialism.

The conference is considered an important starting point for future projects on the preservation and education of local culture. The author also touched upon the importance of the memorandum signed between the Baku Initiative Group and the Tawini Huiraatira political party of French Polynesia, stating that the prospects for future cooperation are promising.

The article also mentions that as one of the final results of the event, open letters were addressed to international organizations and OSCE officials on behalf of the conference participants, and the importance of informing the world community about the events in the regions affected by the colonial policy is indicated.

At the end of the article, referring to the Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group, Abbas Abbasov, the organization's commitment to strengthening the voice of the peoples affected by colonialism is highlighted.

According to the author, this commitment of the BIG reflects the continuous support of France's overseas colonies in their struggle for freedom and its firm position against neo-colonial practices.
