Alparslan Bayraktar: Türkiye aims to deepen energy cooperation with US

Energy and natural resources are areas that can significantly promote economic relations between Türkiye and the United States, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said.

Report informs via Anadolu that the minister said there are many potential areas for interaction between the two countries. Türkiye is ready to develop bilateral cooperation with the United States, in particular in the field of energy and mining, he said.

"As the transition to clean energy becomes an undeniable reality of the industry, the number of areas for cooperation is increasing, including renewable energy, critical minerals and liquefied natural gas (LNG)," Bayraktar said.

At the same time, he added that Türkiye and the United States can cooperate not only on the territory of their countries, but also in third countries and in various regions.

Bayraktar also said that the mechanism of the Turkish-American Energy and Climate Dialogue was launched on May 9, together with US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

"This platform will provide us with a valuable platform to advance our cooperation in key areas that are at the center of both countries' energy strategies. We also want to open this platform to investors from the Turkish-American business world," the minister said.

He also emphasized that the United States is now Türkiye's second largest LNG supplier: "I believe that cooperation in this area between Türkiye and the United States has serious growth potential and an increase in volumes will contribute to the security of supplies to Türkiye and the region as a whole."

According to Bayraktar, this will be facilitated by the 10-year agreement signed on May 9 in Washington between the Turkish gas company BOTAS and the American ExxonMobil, providing for the annual supply of 2.5 million tons of LNG to Türkiye.
