Umayra Taghiyeva: Joint action plan being prepared with Azercosmos

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is preparing an action plan jointly with the Azercosmos OJSC under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Umayra Taghiyeva, said at the event titled View of Climate Change from Space, Report informs.

According to her, an action program is being prepared jointly with Azercosmos: "We will continue our very close cooperation with Azercosmos within the program. Today, satellite data has become an invaluable source of information. These data are especially important for climate change, environmental pollution, flood forecasting, and monitoring of forest fires, identification of the sources of dust storms, and making forecasts. The corner represented by Azercosmos in the Azerbaijan pavilion at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) aroused great interest. Also, the fact that Azerbaijan is a satellite country was received with great sympathy. This field will take its rightful place at COP29 to be held in Baku,” the deputy minister said.

Taghiyeva also pointed out that one of the main topics of the COP is related to the state of water resources: "Our planet is facing a water shortage, and we are also very interested in holding joint events with Azercosmos on this platform. The situation in the world's closed water basins and expected risks have been identified as one of the main topics, and there is no doubt that we will closely cooperate with Azercosmos in this field."
