Nick Medich: COP is a crucial part of fight against climate change

Having regular annual COP negotiating session is a crucial part of the fight against climate change, UK expert on renewables Nick Medich told Report.

He said without these meetings there would be no progress.

The world community can assess results of the work done, set new goals and negotiate new measures.

"The fact that we have so far have had 28 of these events, one every year, tells you how seriously the international community is taking them," he said.

Speaking about expectations from the upcoming COP29, Medich recalled that the exact agenda that will be discussed during the session is still unknown, since it is usually announced four months before it.

"I think that COP29 will be an opportunity to bolster aspects of the Paris Agreement, with the view of accelerating the energy transition world-wide, while ensuring environmental and socio-economic sustainability," he concluded.
