CAREC countries begin implementing tourism strategy initiatives

Countries participating in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program have begun practical implementation of initiatives under the CAREC Tourism Strategy through 2030.
According to Report, the development was announced following a meeting of the CAREC Tourism Working Group held in Tashkent.
The meeting in the Uzbek capital marked the resumption of the Tourism Working Group's activities. Representatives of relevant government agencies, development institutions and the private sector discussed mechanisms for moving from strategic declarations to the targeted implementation of projects.
Particular attention was paid to creating a sustainable portfolio of bankable investment projects, strengthening interregional coordination and developing cross-border cooperation.
Participants also focused on improving transport connectivity, introducing digital technologies in the tourism sector, promoting sustainable development principles and strengthening professional training.
Priority tasks for the coming period include updating the Visit Silk Road information platform, applying international standards for investment promotion and assessing the level of digital maturity of the tourism sector in participating countries.
The joint program for 2026-2027 also provides for expert support for projects at the preparation stage and the development of mechanisms for sharing regional experience.
