Georgia to host first online chess championship

Georgian Chess Federation will organize an online chess championship on April 23, Report informs, citing Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia.
The sponsor of the championship is the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The contest aims to popularize the chess in Georgia and shift the tournaments around the world, which were suspended due to the pandemic, to an online space.
Those intending to participate in the championship should register and enter the online club of the Chess Federation.
The competition will be held in 17 rounds in accordance with the Swiss system on the FIDE rules. The winners will be selected, depending on their scores. The winning prize is GEL 30,000.
