Swedish envoy: Digital technologies creating new opportunities for women

Digital technologies open up new paths and create new opportunities for women, Swedish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Tobias Lorentzson said at the March 6 conference “DigitAll: Gender Equality in Innovation and Digitalization,” Report informs.

He noted that this conference is very important for supporting women, because due to gender inequality, women cannot fully use their potential and realize themselves in the field of digitalization and ICT.

The ambassador also added that, according to statistics, 58% of women have experienced online harassment.

“Supporting gender equality is an important activity of the Swedish government. The Swedish government and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have also joined forces to fight inequality in the field of innovation and technology,” he said.

In conclusion, Lorentzson stressed the importance of the commitment of the countries to the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence).
