The growth in birth rate in Azerbaijan at the unchanging tendency towards masculinization may lead to the so-called demographic masculinization, i.e., the violation of the natural gender balance at birth due to the selective abortion of girls, according to a public opinion poll and sociological survey "Family relations in Azerbaijan: socio-psychological analysis" conducted jointly by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the Center for Social Research.
"Even if the gender balance is restored, it can be very hard to eliminate the consequences. According to the most optimistic scenario, it will not be possible to change the current situation - the gender balance - by 2050," the poll said.
