In accordance with the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1992 in connection with the protection of the elderly, October 1 is annually celebrated in the world, including in Azerbaijan, as the International Day of Older Persons, Report informs.
According to the law ‘On social services,’ persons over 70 are considered elderly. Currently, there are about 440,000 citizens over 70 years old in the country.
During the pandemic, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population provided social services to 15,000 elderly and disabled people at home, more than 1,000 citizens received services in social institutions. Currently, the Social Services Agency under the ministry provides all elderly and disabled people who live alone with the necessary social services at home.
