Religious figures from Türkiye and Georgia have visited Azerbaijan's Shusha, where they got acquainted with its historical monuments and the restoration process, Report informs.
Employees of the State Reserve Department provided the guests with detailed information about the history of the city and the restoration work being carried out.
It was noted that over almost 30 years of occupation, a significant part of the architectural heritage of Shusha - mosques, monuments, historical buildings - was subjected to Armenian vandalism. After the liberation of the city, large-scale work began to restore the infrastructure and historical appearance of the city, including the restoration of cultural and religious monuments.
The guests visited the central square, where the bullet-riddled statues of Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul and Uzeyir Hajibayli are located, as well as the Natavan house, the Khan gizi spring, the fortress walls, and the Mehmandarov estate. In the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, they were told that there were 17 quarters in ancient Shusha, each of which had a bathhouse, a mosque, and a spring.
These architectural objects were also damaged during the occupation. However, after liberation, the Yukhari Govhar Agha, Ashaghi Govhar Agha, Saatli, Mamai and Chol Gala mosques were restored. Concluding the visit, the delegation visited the Molla Panah Vagif Museum and Mausoleum Complex and admired the breathtaking landscape opening up from the Jidir Plain.
