Vatican cardinal praises Azerbaijan's support for interfaith dialogue

Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, Prefect of the Vatican's Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, has praised Azerbaijan's contribution to promoting interfaith dialogue at the global level.

According to Report, the remarks were made during a meeting with Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.

The meeting was also attended by Father Laurent Basanez, head of the Islamic Bureau of the Dicastery.

Mammadov stated that Azerbaijan continues to make consistent efforts to establish lasting peace, security, and relations based on mutual trust in the region, while advancing important international initiatives. He noted that the Azerbaijani model of coexistence is founded on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and inclusiveness.

Cardinal Koovakad said he highly values Azerbaijan's efforts to protect religious diversity and strengthen traditions of tolerance. He also praised the country's extensive experience in this field and its support for interreligious dialogue worldwide.

The sides also discussed joint initiatives aimed at promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue, the importance of cooperation among religious leaders and institutions in addressing global challenges, and other issues of mutual interest.
