French President Emmanuel Macron has tried to succeed in mediating between Ukraine and Russia by offering sovereignty concessions to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader resolutely rejected this proposal, Report informs, citing UNIAN.
In an interview with Italian journalists, Zelenskyy said Macron offered him to make certain concessions regarding Ukrainian sovereignty for Putin to 'save face.' He recalled that world leaders allowed Hitler to think about a new division of order at one time. Something similar happened for many years while Europe was looking for an approach to Putin and Russia.
"We should not look for a way out for Russia, and Mr. Macron does it in vain. I believe that he has excellent experience, that until Russia wants it, it will not look for anything ... He wanted to get certain results in mediation, he didn't find them, and not from our side, but from Russia," Zelenskyy said.
"On February 24, Russia showed that it is indifferent to all concessions, and it will take the territory if it decides to do so. And Emmanuel does not need to make these or those diplomatic steps. He became president, and I supported him. But without any steps aside. Only steps forward if you want to return what is yours," Zelenskyy said.
