Turkish Foreign Minister accused NATO of adopting double standards

The Operation Peace Spring is aimed at ending the terror that threatens NATO's southeastern border.

Report informs referring to Hurriyet that Turkish foreign minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said at Joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

Turkey's most natural and legitimate expectation is that its allies show solidarity within the framework of indivisibility of security, Çavuşoğlu said.

"It's not enough to say 'we understand Turkey's legitimate concerns,' we want to see clear solidarity.

"[The operation] is therefore highly important for the security of alliance territory," Çavuşoğlu said.

“Turkey's most natural and legitimate expectation is that its allies show solidarity within the framework of indivisibility of security," he added.

Turkey's Çavuşoğlu said he informed NATO chief Stoltenberg about Operation Peace Spring, and Turkey expects from its allies to show "strong solidarity".

Jens Stoltenberg stressed that no other NATO ally "has suffered more terrorist attacks, exposed to instability, violence and turmoil from the Middle East and hosts so many refugees as Turkey does".

He also urged the international community to find "coordinated and sustainable solution" to deal with Daesh terrorists held in Syria.

In response, Çavuşoğlu said: "This is your hypocrisy. Turkey investigated the issue of discussion until the end. NATO adopts plans to protect its allies. It also approved a plan to protect Turkey. Then 8 countries unfairly blocked it. The report also contains the terrorist PKK/YPG. Aren't the PKK a common enemy? We are determined, terrorists are our targets. We are sensitive to humanitarian issues."

Notably, Jens Stoltenberg paid a visit to Turkey on October 11. He is also expected to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Secretary General said he was looking forward to meeting the Turkish president.
