Istanbul. 29 October. REPORT.AZ/ The third airport in Istanbul (Istanbul Grand Airport - IGA) will be put into service today.
Turkish Bureau of Report News Agency informs that the opening of the airport, which is one of the world's enormous airports and led the ways with a lot of innovations , is held at the 95th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will inaugurate the airport. The official opening ceremony will take place at 16:00 Turkey time. Presidents, prime ministers and state officials invited from foreign countries will attend the opening ceremony. The name of the new airport will be announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The first flight from the airport will be carried out at Ankara Esenboğa Airport (ESB). The internal flight will last 45 minutes. The first international flight will be made to Azerbaijan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The first flight to Azerbaijan will be carried on November 1 aboard Boeing 737-800 aircraft, at 15:55 local time, and the back flight will take place on November 2 at 08:53.
Flights to 350 destinations are planned from the new airport. First, it is expected to serve 90 million passengers annually, while further this figure will be 150 million passengers a year.
The airport which cost 10 billion Turkish lira will have stores, logistics and exhibition centers.
Notably, currently 55 airports operate in Turkey. The first airport in the country was built for military purposes in 1912.
