The Turkish nation and Turkey’s diplomatic missions worldwide celebrate Victory Day today, marking the 99th anniversary of when Turkish armies succeeded in the Great Offensive under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk against occupying Greek forces on August 30 in 1922.
Victory Day, first celebrated in 1923, has been officially declared as such since 1926.
August 30 is also marked as the Day of the Turkish Armed Forces.
