Ankara plans to open flights to various regions of Armenia and expand trade relations with Yerevan, the Hüriyyet newspaper wrote on Tuesday, referring to the closed discussions on foreign policies held in the Turkish presidential administration,
Earlier, the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority reported that Turkey and Armenia would open flights from February 2, and the flights would be operated three times a week. The press secretary of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Sona Harutyunyan, told RIA Novosti that the Armenian aviation authorities also issued permission to the Turkish company Pegasus to operate two flights a week on the same route.
“As a first step, it was decided to establish air communication with Armenia. Then, the issue of flights to other regions will be put on the agenda. In particular, Van can become a tourist center for Armenians. At the same time, it is planned to restore some historical structures, such as the bridge and buildings near Kars, to which the Armenians attach great importance. Trade relations will be expanded simultaneously to reduce the pressure of the Armenian diaspora,” the Turkish newspaper wrote.
