Turkish Grand National Assembly was established on April 23, 1920.

Report informs that Turkey has been marking April 23 as a National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

The Assembly was established at 1:45 p.m. on April 23 with the participation of 115 deputies. On April 24, 1920, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk was elected as the Chairman of the Assembly since 1934.

In connection with the holiday, the Turkish Grand National Assembly will gather with a special agenda. Today's meeting is expected to be attended by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the CHP ("Republican People's Party"), Devlet Bahçeli, the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Mithat Sancar, Co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), and as an observer, Meral Akşener, Chairwoman of Good Party (IYI Party). Turkish President, Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will not join the meeting.

Besides Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also marks the National Sovereignty and Children's Day.
