Armenia's National Security Service detained several opposition figures in Yerevan on Friday evening, Report informs, referring to local media outlets broadcasting live from the National Security Service building.
Political scientist, former deputy of the Armenian parliament Karen Bekaryan, political expert Angela Elibegova, former chief of staff of the Armenian parliament Ara Saghatelyan have been nabbed.
The detainees' lawyers told the media that the Security Service did not clarify the reasons for the arrests, refused to let them see their clients, and conducted searches in the detainees' houses and offices.
According to their information, three more people were detained.
The detainees earlier spoke out against the current government and declared the need for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.
Another large opposition rally demanding Pashinyan's resignation is scheduled in Yerevan on February 20.
