Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili intends to actively participate in the election campaign of the United National Movement (UNM), the party that he founded, Report informs via Interfax.
"I am going to head the political activity committee of our party and am ready to be at the forefront of the struggle in the upcoming parliamentary elections. This committee will include UNM leaders, as well as public figures," Saakashvili said remotely from the clinic at the next trial against him on Friday.
The ex-president accused the current authorities of preparing to falsify the elections in October, in particular, at the expense of "500,000 voters existing only on paper."
"Of course, I remain a citizen of Ukraine, but I will be able to take part in the election campaign in Georgia, since there is a precedent. Oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili took part in the 2012 elections in Georgia, being a citizen of the European Union," he said.
A few days ago, Saakashvili took to social networks to call on on the opposition forces to decide on the candidacy of the future president of Georgia. He wrote that he knew who could become the opposition presidential candidate, but he was interested in the opinions of others.
