Russia confirmed  5, 509 new coronavirus infections, bringing the country’s official number of cases to  1 068 320, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

Over the past day, 57 more fell victim to the virus. So far, 18 635 people have died of COVID-19, while  878 700 recovered.

Most of the new infections were reported in the capital, Moscow - 696 people.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
