Russia confirmed  5 670  new coronavirus infections, bringing the country’s official number of cases to  1 079 519 , Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

Over the past day, 132 more fell victim to the virus. So far, 18 917 people have died of COVID-19, while  890 114 recovered.

Most of the new infections were detected in the capital, Moscow - 750 people.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
