Political analyst: Tough period of negotiations about to start between Ukraine and US over ceasefire with Russia

A tough period of negotiations is about to start between Ukraine and the US administration led by Donald Trump over achieving a ceasefire with Russia, political analyst Maksym Yali stated in his statement to Report.

"We know that negotiations are stuck on Russia's territorial claims. This risk appears clear and real in Trump's statement yesterday. Russia is also facing a choice. For example, last summer Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine had to surrender both Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. This is certainly unacceptable for both Ukrainian society and Ukrainian authorities,” Yali said.

According to the Ukrainian political analyst, the main issue is security guarantees for Ukraine until NATO membership: “This will be one of Donald Trump's upcoming compromises. And most importantly, what will the US side and Ukraine's European partners offer in return to prevent war from returning to Ukraine? Russia's territorial claims and Ukraine's security concerns are the two main issues.”

Yali said that Ukraine should raise the issue of compensation for damages caused by Russia during the war: "Will any agreements be reached? I think we will see this in the next three months or in 100 days as Donald Trump's aide Keith Kellogg said. The plan to stop military operations is still the main issue for the Donald Trump administration," Yali added.
