Pashinyan: Armenia hopes for EU visa liberalization from 2029

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that visa liberalization with the European Union (EU) could be achieved starting in 2029, Report informs via Armenian media outlets.

He made the statement at a joint briefing in Yerevan with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"I had said that our task was to achieve this within two years. I hope that from 2029 it will be possible," Pashinyan noted, adding that Armenia and the EU are working closely in this direction.

Von der Leyen, in turn, emphasized that visa liberalization depends on the implementation of necessary reforms:

"There will be new evaluation missions. This fall, a mission will come to assess progress on the remaining benchmarks. Once all requirements are met, we can move to a visa‑free regime. Only some reforms are needed, and once they are completed, you will cross the finish line." She acknowledged Armenia's progress in this area.
